Box Liner Automatic
Box Liner Automatic

IAA Transportation premiere for the KRONE Box Liner Automatic: the automated container chassis has even more advanced automation than the Box Liner, which was presented in 2022.

The automatic coupling system from KRONE partner Aucos makes it possible to drive on the road with conventional trucks with normal electrical and air connections, but also to couple and uncouple automatically with terminal trucks at container terminals. This saves a considerable amount of time - with minimal technical effort on the semi-trailer.

And this is how the Box Liner Aitomatic works in practice: a truck transports the Box Liner equipped with an automatic coupling to a trailer yard. Here, the driver uncouples the semi-trailer in the conventional way by removing the electrical and air plugs, cranking down the landing gear, opening the fifth wheel and pulling the tractor unit out from under the semi-trailer.

The terminal truck now drives under the KRONE Box Liner Automatic, and immediately after the mechanical coupling process between the kingpin and the fifth wheel coupling, the electrical and air connection is automatically established via the drilled-out fifth wheel pin. In addition, a Powerline system connection is automatically established from the terminal truck to the semi-trailer in order to ensure the functionality of the trailer's lighting system. At the same time, the lifting function of the electric landing gear is activated.

When the terminal truck lowers the KRONE Box Liner Automatic, the connections are automatically released and the lowering function of the landing gear is activated. All previously manual processes are carried out automatically without the driver of the truck having to leave the cab. A new dirt cover developed by Aucos also enables this multifunctional application to interact with conventional and automated tractor units.

The background: In trailer yards, hubs and container terminals, greater emphasis is being placed on optimizing process times. The coupling processes of the terminal tractor unit with the semi-trailer play an important role here. These process times are significantly reduced by this system. The technology used in the KRONE Box Liner Automatic not only saves a considerable amount of time when coupling and uncoupling, but also means a major gain in work safety. Automated coupling and uncoupling with the Aucos system is not only possible for container chassis, but also for other Krone semi-trailers.

At the IAA Transportation 2024, KRONE is launching with the forward-looking motto ‘Dimensions in Motion’. The new KRONE Box Liner Automatic is the leitmotif for the ‘Automation’ theme park on the KRONE stand and is an example of KRONE's technological advancements since the IAA Transportation 2022.
